Name: Public Presentation: Wyoming Capitol Restoration Project
    Date: April 17, 2019
    Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
    Event Description:

(Lander, Wyoming) On April 17th, the Fremont County Historic Preservation Commission is hosting
architect Michael Dixon for a presentation about the Wyoming State Capitol Restoration Project. Dixon
has served as the site architect and historic preservation consultant for the Capitol reconstruction since
    2016.

Join Mr. Dixon and the Fremont County Historic Preservation Commission for this presentation on
Wednesday, April 17th at 6:30pm in the Fremont County Library—Lander Branch. The presentation will
be held in the Carnegie Room.

A beautiful example of Renaissance Revival architecture, the Capitol has only undergone one other
major renovation before the current project, which was approved by the Wyoming Legislature in 2014.
Mr. Dixon and his team have overseen the big picture restoration work and countless details of this
renovation and will detail the history of the building and its restoration in a riveting presentation. Any
enthusiasts of Wyoming state government, Renaissance Revival buildings, and historic preservation in
    general will enjoy this event.

The Wyoming State Capitol building was built between 1886-1890—the territorial assembly approved
construction in 1886 prior to Wyoming statehood. The building houses the chambers for the Wyoming
Legislature’s Senate and House of Representatives as well as offices for the Wyoming Governor and
other executive branch elected officials. The Senate and House chambers were added by 1917 and the
first renovation of the building was complete in 1980. The Legislature approved funds for the current
renovation project in 2014. The Capitol has been closed throughout this renovation but will be reopened
to the public on July 10, Wyoming Statehood Day.

The Capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and became a National
    Historic Landmark in 1987.
